The objective of this manual is to describe the process to be followed in organizing the “Young IT Professional (YITP) Awards”, which can be a reference guide for all the Regional Vice Presidents, EXECOM Members, Awards Committee and Sponsors. This will also be guiding tool for all the Regional and National rounds. It provides an overview of all the awards that are instituted or given by the CSI to acknowledge and motivate individuals and organizations working in the field of IT. The content of this document will be updated for continuous improvement as when the need arises.
1.ABOUT CSI YITP AWARDS
The Young IT Professional Awards are instituted to encourage Researchers, IT professionals, Academicians, Consultants, Entrepreneurs and IT Practitioners in an Organization, or as individuals below 35 years of age in service/ support/training function in the field of Information Technology.
These awards are instituted both at the national as well as at the regional levels. The winners of the each region will qualify for competing in the final national round.
3.ELIGIBILITY
Any individual below 35 years of age (on 31st March, 2016 of the year in which the award will be given), who are either working professionals, entrepreneurs or researchers and has made significant innovation in the areas of research, academics, and IT applications and services to bring improvement in service, support and training in the field of Information Technology.
Only those individual with minimum of 3 years and maximum 12 years of experience as on 31st March, 2015 can participate in this competition.
An individual or a team of maximum 3 members meeting above eligibility criteria can be nominated by the organization or by the fellow of CSI.
4.WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
Participants can be from the Institutes, Business organizations, Research Institutes and Interns from incubation centers of universities/recognized institutes.
5.NOMINEES
Following are the criteria for nominees:
- The nominee should be practicing as an IT Professional working in public, private sector, community, social service organizations, research organisation or incubation centres of Universities/recognised institutes.
- The nominee should have high degree of technical/entrepreneurial qualities as reflected in his management style, innovativeness and leadership.
- The nominee should have demonstrated outstanding entrepreneurial ability and innovativeness in the choice of products, technology, location, etc. and achieved high levels of performance and growth for his organization in the recent years.
- The contribution to be recognized for the YITP Award will be outstanding achievement(s) of professional or a kind of work, which will benefit a sizeable group of people, irrespective of their category. While the work concerned may relate to one or more functional area (s), the emphasis will be on integrated approach to professional effectiveness.
- IT Professionals with high potential are encouraged.
- Total years of experience
- The type and range of products and services dealt with
- Innovative practices, if any, adopted
- Other factors like Overall personality, Involvement in training and development, Extent of cross functional experience/expertise, Participation in public/institutional activities and programmes, publication and other activities of a public nature.
6.CATEGORY
The nominations will be categorized in the following divisions in the respective themes :
- Division 1: Hardware:
- Hardware development, Cloud implementation
- Division 2: Software:
- Information Security, Artificial Intelligence, BFSI, Manufacturing, Retail, Multi lingual applications, Applications for rural development, Medicine or Health care Equipment’s
- Division 3: Applications :
- Multi lingual applications, Applications for rural development, Medicine or Health care Equipment’s, Fashion industry / art, Public transport, BFSI, Manufacturing, Retail, Gaming
- Division 4: Communications:
- Telecom, Mobile computing
- Division 5: Education and Research:
- E- learning, Animation Industry
Young professionals working on multi-language applications and devices, professionals who have set-up cloud based infrastructure or service, develop various applications / projects indigenously implemented including in the area of education/e-learning, information security products/inventions, etc. can also participate.
7. CRITERIA FOR AWARDS
- The most outstanding technology project of any kind, completed during the year 2014 / 2015 (project duration could be of 2 -3 years from the start date) within an organization will be judged for following criteria by the selection committee.
- Award will be presented to organizations and to project team that has achieved exceptional results through their outstanding implementation of technology and their high levels of professionalism in IT
The nominations will be judged against following key criteria:
- Criticality of IT Usage :
- The application cannot be effective by itself; it has to be followed up with equality effective and innovative usage, for instance, Electronic Commerce.
- Improvement of Customer Service :
- Enabling faster delivery of the products or services, as per specific customer choices.
- Innovation :
- Has the project introduced new or leading-edge technologies, supported a new way of working or pioneered an original change in business processes? Has the project stimulated new thinking, or laid the foundations for further innovation?
- Return on Investment :
- Has the project measurably and substantially improved the organisation's ability to achieve its core goals? Has it bestowed a significant competitive advantage, or dramatically enhanced the services offered to customers, staff or partners? Have there been spin-off benefits of the project?
- Quality of Management :
- Was the project completed on time and within budget? Did the project deliverables match or exceed the initial objectives? How resourcefully were obstacles overcome, and what lessons were learned to improve the management of future projects?
- Impact
- Organisations : What measures have been used to assess or quantify the success of the project? How has the project demonstrated technology's role as a vital enabler in improving organisational excellence, competitiveness or quality of service? How will the project's deliverables be developed, or how will they support future growth or change in the organisation?
- Society : The impact and influence of the IT solution on the society at large. This would include the number of people deriving benefit from the solution; its impact in terms of India’s global competitiveness; how it helps in spreading awareness about IT among the masses and also how it helps create a climate for better appreciation and usage of IT.
8. SELECTION PROCESS
Trophy and Certificate to winning team/individual and prize as under :
- 8.1 Regional Round
- Short listing of nomination will be done to restrict the number of entries in final Regional Round (maximum up to 8 entries).
- In the final Regional Round, short-listed nominees will make oral presentation followed by a Q&A session in the presence of selection committee on the day of contest.
- The winners will be awarded Regional trophy, cash prize and certificate in the category of Winner and Runners-up. A special mention cash prize and a certificate will be given to the third winner (if any).
- The winners of regional round are eligible to contest in the national round
- The selection committee decision will be final and binding to all participants
- 8.2 National Round
- The winners of the regional contest will participate in the national round. Winner and runner up participate in national YITP competition organized by HQ.
- They will make oral presentation followed by a Q&A session in the presence of selection committee on the day of contest. No changes in the nomination submitted are allowed between regional and national rounds.
- National Awards will be presented on 4th March, 2016 two day before the CSI Foundation day at Udaipur, which is hosted by CSI, Udaipur Chapter.
9. HOW TO APPLY
- Individual or a team not exceeding three individuals can apply. Additional member can join the team in special circumstances.
- Nomination should reflect a specific achievement, innovation, algorithm, value-addition in the work of project undertaken during the project tenure ending 2014 / 2015.
- Nomination should be supported by the institution or the organization to which the applicants are attached.
- Nominations nominated by any CSI Fellow are also eligible.
- Nominations should be original and not published prior to the event.
- Nominations should be made in the prescribed format available on the CSI-website: www.csi- india.org on or before the last date of submission for the specific region.

10. REGIONAL ROUNDS
The Regional rounds will be held at the CSI Chapter of the following regions during February, 2015. The host chapter will announce the schedule for the particular region.

11.SELECTION COMMITTEE
The selection committee will comprise of CSI ExeCom member, Fellows and past Presidents of CSI, leading IT Professional, Academicians and Scientist. The number of members in the selection committee will be 3 or 5. The Regional YITP Coordinator/National YITP Convener and host chapter chairman will invite the above in the committee. The member of the selection committee should not have the conflict of interest. The selection committee member of regional round will not be considered for the national round. The chairman of the selection committee will be identified by the Regional YITP Coordinator and host chapter chairman. The names of the Selection Committee Members should be identified before issuing the Call for nominations so that Selection Committee Member names can be announced.
- Judging Process
Each nomination will be judged by the selection committee. The selection process shall be based on :
- Receipt of Nomination with fees.
- Short listing of entries by Selection Committee.
- Presentations by short listed entries to the Selection Committee
- Final Awards will be based on joint evaluation by the selection committee as per the
evaluation criteria. (Annexure – A.8)
- The selection committee will reserve the right to seek additional information from the nominated entries during the evaluation process.
- The final recommendation of awards will be made by the selection committee on the basis of the information available to them in the nomination form and presentations made by the applicants.

14. BUDGET
Regional Round
Each region/host chapter will host the regional round of YITP awards. The income will be from application fees and sponsorship from IT companies, service providers, academic institutes and industry. The expenses related to regional event including cash prize to winning team / winner, venue, publicity, mementos to selection committee members, local hospitality, travelling and conveyance etc., will be met from this income and financial support from the host chapter. The region/host chapter will make the event self-sustainable. CSI HQ will arrange for trophies and certificates.
National Round
The CSI HQ and host chapter will work out the sponsorship with the leading IT companies.
Sponsorship :The Sponsorship scheme is annexed. (Annexure – A.5 / A.6)
15. ADVERTISING AND BRANDING
The YITP award is instituted both at National as well as Regional level. To make this award popular and to get maximum entries for participation at each region, promotion by way of advertising and branding will be done by CSI HQ by having a brochure, announcement in CSI communication and on CSI website, mailing to leading IT companies, service industry, academic institutes and members. The event can also reach the mass through social networking sites.
Print Material
CSI HQ will provide the 100 printed broucher to each region for marketing purpose. To maintain the consistency in the event, seven common banners and certificates will be designed at HQ with respective host chapter, venue and event date details as given by all the host chapter. Each host chapter will receive the soft copy from HQ and they can print it at their end.
16. CONFIDENTIALITY CLAUSE
The data and information provided in the nomination by the individuals/organizations will be treated with absolute confidentiality. CSI reserves the right to publish any of the data and information submitted by the individuals/organizations, without attribution.
17. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
To make the YITP award a success YITP committees at National and Regional level will jointly put effort.
Regional YITP Committee: Each region will have regional YITP committee. The RVP of region will be the YITP Coordinator for that region. He will nominate the Regional Convener preferably from the host chapter. Regional Coordinator and Regional Convener will invite senior members of the host chapter, leading IT professional and academicians in the Regional Committee.
National YITP Committee: The National YITP Convener will have all Regional YITP Coordinators in National YITP Committee. The president can nominate ExeCom members, leading IT professionals and Academicians in this committee.
17.1. Role of Regional YITP Committee
Following actions are required at regional level :
- Prepare the Budget and Event Schedule
- Prepare marketing strategy and publicity plans for promotion the event
- Identify sponsors for the event
- Invite nominations for the regional round
- Finalize Selection Committee in consultation with National YITP Committee
- Invitation to selection committee members
- Shortlist nominations (up to maximum 8) for the regional round
- Select a venue to host the event
- Select and hire a master of ceremony with regards to linguistic and thematic criteria,
- Identifying Chief Guest and invite him
- Contact the short listed nominees
- Organize the event (Identify volunteers, on-site staff, photographer, Presentation Equipments, Food, Awards, Mementos etc.
- Prepare a brief report of the event with the list of participants, selection committee members, winners, income expenditure statement and photographs; and send to CSI HQ and CSI YITP National Convener.
17.2 Role of National YITP Committee.
Following actions are required at national level :
- Prepare the Budget and Event Schedule
- Prepare marketing strategy and publicity plans for promotion the event
- Identify sponsors for the event
- Finalize Selection Committee in consultation with President/ Regional YITP Committee
- Invitation to selection committee members
- Receive details of winners at the regional round and invite them for the final round

- Identifying Chief Guest, Guest of Honor and invite him
- Organize the event (Identify volunteers, on-site staff, photographer, Presentation

- Prepare a detail report of the event with the list of participants, selection committee members, winners, income expenditure statement and photographs; and send to CSI HQ.

19. CONCLUSION
This reference manual will give a perspective of YITP Awards to all the stakeholders to make this event a success and create a brand of its own. Preparing this manual is first of its kind and will be enhance every year. We request all the RVPs and YITP Conveners to prepare and share a report (with lesson learnt) of the YITP Awards conducted at their respective region. This will help to improvise the event and smooth functioning for the future event.
